LEVEL ONE — SEED POWER

caroline can absorb light from natural & artificial sources, store it in her body, and release it in the form of light from her palms. with effort, she can choose specific sources of light to absorb, and the nature of the light that is released, including brightness and temperature.

LEVEL TWO — SOLAR FIRE
EARNED IC OCTOBER, REDEEMED IC JANUARY

when enough solar energy has been absorbed, caroline can emit this energy in the form of concentrated beams from her palms. this energy is strong enough to catch organic matter on fire, and when applied long enough, can melt metal or plastic structures.

LEVEL THREE — LIGHT SHIELD
EARNED IC NOVEMBER, REDEEMED IC JANUARY

in lieu of an offensive attack, caroline can generate a field of solar energy up to 10 feet in diameter. this shield can be held for up to five minutes at full size, or longer for smaller shields.

LEVEL FOUR — HEALING LIGHT
EARNED IC DECEMBER, REDEEMED IC JANUARY

with physical contact, caroline can heal injuries and mend objects. minor healing, such as closing cuts and bruises, requires very little energy; potentially fatal injuries may incapacitate her if fully healed. strong emotional connections lessen the solar energy and stamina required for healing, as does the empathy bond from a third party.

the pros.

note: all skills are dependent on regular feeding. vampires who have not maintained a steady blood supply or who have fed on animal blood will have their abilities at a lower capacity than those who have fed regularly or on human blood.

› strength. even a hungry vampire is stronger than the average person, and can easily lift, throw, and take down a grown man in combat.
› speed. vampires can accelerate their movements to cover short distances, moving faster than most humans can process. when running long distances, they appear as vibrating blurs of motion. this enhanced speed is mental as well — a vampire paying attention will display incredible dexterity and superhuman reflexes, enabling them to react in time to catch projectiles or block physical attacks.
› agility. in addition to moving quickly and with grace, a well-fed vampire can climb, jump, and otherwise move in the world to extreme degrees. for example, they may be able to jump up to the roof of a two-story building or jump down a hundred feet without injury.
› senses. in order to better hunt their prey and avoid their enemies, vampires have extremely keen senses of hearing, sight, smell, and taste. when actively paying attention, they can hear whispered conversations, smell blood from meters away, and see in the dark. they can also taste chemical impurities in their prey's blood (including drugs, alcohol, or vervain). these abilities are dependent on intention and can be impacted by distraction.
› healing factor & durability. they are able to withstand significant physical damage — including gunshots, stabbings, and other wounds — and are capable of healing (though they do feel pain) at a rapid rate. broken bones can be put back in place and will mend with time, and damaged tissue from wounds can repair itself in moments. repair of severe injuries typically requires additional sustenance for fuel, with human blood or vampire blood the best value for this.
› immortality. a vampire stops aging once turned. they are immune to conventional illnesses and diseases. (special note: this may not be the case for displaced-related afflictions, such as the rage virus!)

the cons.

› enhanced emotions. vampires experience emotions more powerfully than humans — both positive and negative. joy is blissfully positive, whereas sadness, guilt, or anger can be overwhelming and destructive. while vampires have the ability to control their emotions much like they can control their bloodlust, this takes time and practice and intent, and can be difficult to master in times of stress or hunger.
› nerfed compulsion & telepathy. while in new amsterdam, vampires cannot compel anyone or otherwise access another person's mind. attempts to do so will result in chest pain that worsens the longer or more strenuous the attempt.
› dietary restrictions. vampires still require blood to survive. small animals are nearly impossible to find in the city limits, and getting outside the city is harder still. hospitals and blood banks are still operational, but have digital security on all cold storage rooms. feeding on other humans is likely a requirement, but without compulsion, will require good old-fashioned negotiation and agreement.
› weakness to sunlight. vampires arrive in new amsterdam without any of their personal belongings, including their daylight rings. though these can be obtained through the ooc item request process, it is not immediate and players are not required to obtain them. vampires without a daylight ring or other bewitched lapis lazuli stone will experience burning when exposed to sunlight or uv rays, and may burst into flames with prolonged exposure.
› weakness to fire. as supernaturally preserved species, vampires are extremely flammable and sensitive to fire, and can die from burns quickly if they are not extinguished.
› polite society. vampires require invitation to enter homes, whether by the owner of the property or a current resident. entering the safehouse requires explicit invitation from a current pc, and the same holds true for any other residence in the city.
› temporary setbacks. exposure to vervain, wooden bullets or other weaponry, magical attacks, or significant physical trauma (including broken necks) will incapacitate or significantly wound a vampire.
› instant death. though capable of regenerating tissue and resetting broken bones, a vampire who has been decapitated, set on fire, or staked through the heart with wood will instantly and permanently die.
